Carmen Castro

Carmen moved to Vancouver to perfect her English skills and search for better job opportunities after completing her bachelor's degree in Tourism in her home country.

While exploring said opportunities, she lived in different parts of Canada and became a regular hiker in the Rockies and the Coastal Mountains. Her passion for the outdoors grew, forging her  to not only care more about the environment and strive to live a healthier lifestyle but also to develop her scrambling, backcountry, and camping skills.

Now that she is raising a child, she has additional motivation to discover the natural wonders of British Columbia and Canada in general, to share them with her child, and to inspire other individuals to venture beyond their comfort zones and lead a more outdoor life.

When she is not working or spending time with her child, you will find her reading, drawing, writing, taking pictures, and, of course, enjoying the great outdoors.

Her experiences, knowledge, and insights as a mother, immigrant, and outdoor enthusiast, as well as her journey in this amazing country, are all shared here in This Maple Life.

Magaly Aguiluz

Magaly has made Vancouver her home for several years, having studied business administration in her home country. Like many, she came to Canada with the goal of building a better life for herself and her family.

In her homeland, Magaly and her husband used to climb volcanoes, immersing themselves in the natural beauty of their surroundings. However, her move to Canada opened the doors to a completely new world of explorations. Magaly finds great pleasure in family camping, exploring the frontcountry, or venturing into the backcountry, making the most of the different seasons that this beautiful country offers.

In addition to enjoying these outdoor activities, she has discovered a passion for cooking. Exploring recipes and creating her own have become essential in her life. Her family, especially her little one, actively shares and enjoys this hobby, participating in the kitchen alongside her.

Magaly acknowledges that being an immigrant in a country with significant differences, such as language and climate, presents its challenges. However, she holds the belief that with effort, one can always find a home, no matter the location. For her, it is crucial to surround oneself with people who contribute to personal growth and provide support, whether by offering valuable advice based on their own experiences.

"This Maple Life" represents, for Magaly, a space where shared experiences can inspire and help as many people as possible. It is a place where the immigrant community can find mutual support, based on shared experiences, with the hope that these stories serve as a guide and encouragement for those building a new life in Canada.
